Coursework Unit
In many of your exam subjects at IGCSE and IB level you will need to complete coursework. This unit aims to bring together all the skills you have developed over the Middle School History Curriculum. You will learn how to research, plan and write a piece of coursework on the twentieth century, focusing on the theme of
'The History Behind.....'
You will recieve a copy of this grid for your books. Your teacher will indicate your achievements in the skill areas whenevre you complete some assessed work or tests.
Your coursework focuses on the significance of an event so make sure you understand what that word means....
SKILLS: Research and Presentation
You then need to research a possible event. This can be a modern event or an historical event. You need to understand what happens and be able to say why it is significant, either today or seen at the time.
You just keep a record of every source that you use and the information you get from each source. You will need to reference in your text where you found details, and include a bibliography or list of sources at the end
Now start to research more information about the BACKGROUND to your events. What were its CAUSES? WHY did it happen? This is 'The History Behind....' Make notes on the information you find
Make a plan for your coursework. It should have an introduction where you explain the event, then divide into paragraphs. These might be the long and short term reasons for the event, based on theme such as social, economic, political, or actions in different countries or by different people. Finally you need to ANALYSE the event. What was the most IMPORTANT cause? What is the SIGNIFICANCE of the even then or now? Which SOURCES do think were most RELIABLE
Write your coursework. It should be between 1000 and 1500 words. When you write a fact that you researched, make sure you put a reference in the text.
Final presentation. You need a title page with title, your name and word count. You need your typed work and you need a bibliography - a list of sources used.
